"I think financial gold is always preferable to physical gold whether it is in ETF form or mutual fund form. It is safer, it is more cost efficient to buy, you don have to worry about storage problems. So in every sense, if you are looking to buy gold as an investment, I would favor financial gold. As far as holding onto gold is concerned, gold should always form a part of your portfolio. You shouldn't try to time gold like to try to time stocks. Gold is a good hedge in your portfolio during tough times so holding 10-20% of gold at all times is a wise idea," she advises.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
Many of the problems MetLife and its peers have faced recently stem from products beyond vanilla life-insurance policies. A Moody's report last month discussed how MetLife, along with rivals Hartford Financial (NYSE: HIG ) and Prudential (NYSE: PRU ) , failed to protect against all the risks involved in the variable-annuity products they offered customers. By assuming that more customers would drop their annuities than actually did, MetLife and its peers have had greater-than-expected guarantee obligations under the annuities.
- [By Dan Caplinger]
The problem MetLife sees from additional regulation is that higher capital requirements could hurt its returns and therefore force customers to pay more for its products. Already, MetLife has made significant changes to eliminate unprofitable parts of its business, as both it and Prudential Financial (NYSE: PRU ) have stopped selling new individual long-term care insurance policies. If the company has to maintain greater capital reserves, MetLife will have less room to extend benefits like guaranteed income or withdrawal rights on its annuity and life-insurance products.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
Perhaps the best example of this phenomenon lately comes from Bruce Berkowitz, manager of the Fairholme Fund (NASDAQMUTFUND: FAIRX ) . In 2011, Berkowitz was coming off three straight years of having been among the top 10% of fund managers in the large-cap value category, earning himself an award as Morningstar's Fund Manager of the Decade for stocks. Yet in 2011, he made big bets on financial stocks that turned out to be far too early. Investments in Bank of America (NYSE: BAC ) , mortgage- and bond-insurance company MBIA (NYSE: MBI ) , and insurer juggernaut AIG (NYSE: AIG ) didn't pan out as quickly as he'd hoped, and investors suffered 32% losses for the year while the S&P posted modest 2% gains. Investors fled the fund in droves, sending assets under management plunging.
- [By Jessica Alling] Insurer MBIA (NYSE: MBI ) fell as much as 11% in after-hours trading Monday when the news that it lost a pretrial judgement in its fight against Bank of America (NYSE: BAC ) reached investors. The continued battle stems from allegations that B of A's acquired Countrywide division misrepresented loans to MBIA, which resulted in losses. If MBIA wins the case, Bank of America would be responsible for buying back the loans -- which would be costly. In the video below, Motley Fool contributor Jessica Alling discusses the most recent determination, how it might be a good sign for Bank of America, and what investors should do next.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Brian Orelli]
Health insurers such as Universal American (NYSE: UAM ) and Humana (NYSE: HUM ) that offer supplementary Medicare insurance could be hurt if seniors decided to drop the added coverage, but I doubt the increased premiums will put a major dent in seniors' budgets. Retirees making more than $85,000 per year will have to pay about $250 more per year than they do right now. Any losses will be more than be made up for by theCenters for Medicare and Medicaid Services' decision this month to reverse its previously announced cuts to reimbursement rates.
