While CEO Don Thompson has tried attracting customers with free coffee and new burgers and chicken sandwiches, the competition also has been introducing new fare. Burger King Worldwide Inc. has recently started selling new $1 sandwiches, while Taco Bell is now selling breakfast items, such as sausage burritos, nationwide. On the other hand, McDonald dividend already offers a yield of 3.2%, which is far better than Burger King (BKW) 1.1% and Wendy (WEN) 2.4%.

  • [By Jeff Reeves]

Burger chain Wendy (WEN) has soared almost 60% so far in 2012, but remains under $10 a share and is still a decent buy for investors looking at low-priced options right now.

  • [By Nicole Seghetti]

Competition is intensifying between Nos. 5 and No. 6on the list, Burger King (NYSE: BKW  ) and Wendy's (NASDAQ: WEN  ) , respectively. Following McDonalds' lead, both are undergoing restaurant renovations. Wendy's reported lousy earnings in the most recent quarter, mostly due to heavy remodel spending. Burger King is following Mickey D's another way -- by copying McDonalds menu. And, also like McDonalds, Wendy's is placing particular emphasis on value-centric consumers. The company has beefed up advertising of its lower-priced items more aggressively this year. Even though CEO Emil Brolick sees the value side of the business as a challenge, Wendy's plans to further hype up its stable of $0.99 menu items.

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

The same article singles out a QSR study that showed that the average customer had to wait 188.8 seconds at the chain's drive-thru, nearly a minute more than rival Wendy's (NASDAQ: WEN  ) .

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Ben Levisohn]

In retail, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the trend has not been an investor’s friend. How else to explain the November reversals in Kohl’s (KSS), Macy’s (M), Dillard’s (DDS) and JC Penney (JCP), among others?

  • [By Suravi Thacker]

Macy has been an outperformer when compared to peers such as Kohl (KSS) and J.C. Penney (JCP). The stock price performance of the three players, over the last five years, will make it clear.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Analysts predict that U.S. retailers will discount heavily as they compete for shoppers concerned by joblessness and budget battles in Washington. While J.C. Penney has shored up its operations and finances, Macy Inc. (M) andKohl Corp. (KSS) can better afford to cut prices to drive traffic. If Ullman is forced to join the price war, he risks hurting profitability and burning cash at a faster than projected rate.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

On a relatively quiet day for retailer, shares of J.C. Penney have fallen 3.8% to $6.77, but are still above their recent lows. Kohl(KSS), meanwhile, has edged up 0.1% to $54.93,Macy(M) has risen 0.4% to $44.72 andSears Holdings(SHLD) has gained 0.6% to $55.97.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 wireless telecom player that's starting to move within range of triggering a major breakout trade is Partner Communications (PTNR), a telecommunications company, provides cellular and fixed-line telecommunication services in Israel. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up sharply by 29%.

If you take a look at the chart for Partner Communications, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways for the last month, with shares moving between $7.28 on the downside and $7.96 on the upside. Shares of PTRN are bucking the overall market weakness today as the stock starts to move within range of triggering a breakout trade above the upper-end of its sideways trading chart pattern.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in PTNR if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.80 to $7.85 a share and then once it clears its 52-week high at $7.96 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average volume of 107,303 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then PTNR will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $10 to $12.20 a share.

Traders can look to buy PTNR off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $7.38 to $7.28, or below its 50-day at $6.97 a share. One can also buy PTNR off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
